Mr. Spitzer has been a member of the Township Committee since 2008 and served as Deputy Mayor in 2009 and Mayor in 2010. He serves as the Township Committee liaison to the Library Board, the Beautification Task Force and the Agricultural Advisory Committee, and as Chairman of the Bernards Township Sewerage Authority. Mr. Spitzer has served as the Township Committee liaison to the Planning Board, the Cable TV Task Force, the Golf Advisory Committee, and the Shade Tree Commission and as the Township Committee liaison to the Friends of the Kennedy-Martin-Stelle Farmstead. He is also a Trustee of the Bernards Township Education Foundation, and a member of the Rotary Club and the New Jersey Technology Council. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Meals on Wheels Association of America Research Foundation.

Prior to being elected to the Township Committee, Mr. Spitzer served on the Bernards Township Planning Board for seven years, including five years as its Chairman. He also served on the Township's Open Space Advisory Committee.

Mr. Spitzer is the Managing Member of Law Offices of Scott Spitzer LLC in New York City (www.scottspitzerlaw.com). Mr. Spitzer is a technology and commercial attorney for entrepreneurs, start-ups and small companies.

Mr. Spitzer is formerly Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Bowne & Co., Inc., in New York City. Bowne was a New York Stock Exchange-listed company, the oldest public company in the United States listed on the exchange, and was established in 1775. Bowne was a global leader in providing services that help companies produce and manage their financial and regulatory filings, and investor, marketing and business communications. Bowne was the world's largest financial printer and a major document on demand and personalized communications provider.

He has extensive business and corporate legal experience in senior in-house legal and regulatory positions on Wall Street with a stock exchange (the American Stock Exchange), an investment banking firm (The First Boston Corporation), and an American Stock Exchange-listed international trading company (Balfour Maclaine Corporation). He has also served in senior in-house legal positions in the medical device industry, as Senior Director and Senior Counsel of U.S. Surgical Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange-listed medical device manufacturer and world leader in minimally invasive surgical devices in Norwalk, CT, and as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Vital Signs, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed medical device manufacturer in the respiratory, anesthesia and critical care markets located in Totowa, NJ.

He has practiced law for 35 years and is a member of the bar in New York, the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar Association and the American of Corporate Counsel Association.

He served as a Justice of the Peace in Westport, CT, and was elected to his high school's Alumni Association Hall of Fame. He has also served as a Lafayette College Alumni Admissions Representative in Central New Jersey for several years and serves on its national board of alumni admissions representatives.

Mr. Spitzer graduated Lafayette College, A.B. Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with honors in Government and Law. He is a graduate of the Cornell University Graduate School of Business and Public Administration with a M.P.A., and a graduate of the Cornell University Law School with a J.D. During graduate school, he was a recipient of a United States Environmental Protection Agency Water Pollution Fellowship. He also studied at the Universidad de Valencia, in Valencia, Spain.

He has been a township resident for 14 years and has been married to Toby Spitzer for 29 years. They have two sons, both of whom graduated from the Bernards Township public schools.

Mr. Spitzer served as Mayor of Bernards Township in 2010 and Deputy Mayor in 2009.
